New Avatar, who's this?

The freshly painted, New & Improved Avatar of Kaela Mensha Khaine took to the field for the first time against the Orks in a 100PR slugfest. Both sides brought one Lord of War to the party, the Orks went big on mega-armored bosses and nobz, while Mrs. Blackheart's Space Elves had a mix of Aspect Warriors, Vypers, and Guardian Defenders.

The Pointy Ear Devils went first, and the swift Eldar made it to 3 out of 4 objectives.
Her Wraithknight smoked the Battlewagon that all the Mega-armored folk were riding in. That's a long walk to the enemy for Orks with a 4" movement. The rest of the Aeldari shot up a fair amount of Boyz.

On my turn almost everybody Advanced, and had some decent rolls, but I didn't gain control of any objectives. My shooting phase had one highlight: The Morkanaut did significant damage to the hated Wraithknight.  At the end of the turn I was down 0-3.

The Wraithknight's revenge was not long in coming. With the help of the Farseer, it dealt a stunning 34 points of damage to the Morkanaut. Nothing like some good overkill. Fancy(flaming no)pants Avatar killed off a Deff Dread, and charged and super-overkilled a second one.
Vypers and Striking Scorpions wiped out the rest of my Left Flank. Yeah, not going to plan.

Realizing this battle was lost, I declared the Waaaaagh! My mob of Mega-Armored fools ran a whopping 10" to get within charge range of the Wraithknight.
Tuska, my last Deff Dread unleashed his two rocket launchers at the Wraithknight, and guided by the Hand of Gork did 12 points of damage, destroying it!
Which then promptly exploded and killed two meganobz, the Big mech, and badly injured the Boss. Such is the fickle nature of the gods.

The next turn was just the cheesy Eldar jerks mopping up what was left of my army. Final Score 1-9.

A fun if bloody and short battle! The new Aeldari are quite the force to be dealt with. Stay the hell out of close combat with the Avatar. Kill the Farseer. If only I had an army that valued shooting over everything else...

Horrified

Horrified by Ravensburger was released last year. It flew under my radar until I saw it at a Target a few months ago, on a whim I bought it, and am glad I did!

At its core, Horrified is a Pandemic-style game. Four player characters (played by 1-4 real players) race across the map to solve the issues before Something Bad happens. In this case, the Classic Monsters are rampaging around the unluckiest village.

Included are: Dracula, Gilman, Invisible Man, Werewolf, Mummy, and Mr. & Mrs. Monster.

The player(s) have a nice selection of seven characters to choose from.
The monsters each have a distinct personality, abilities, and specific way to stop them. We have found all the player characters are useful, but none really overpowered as to be an auto-pick.

The goal is the wrangle the Monsters before the Doom Track reaches the end.

The nice townsfolk just doing townsfolk stuff. If too many get picked off you lose!
The games is not complex and easily taught in a few minutes. It is fast moving with good decisions to be made. There is a fair bit of randomness, just enough to keep you on your toes, so always have a backup plan or two ready.

We have played it many times and enjoy it quite a bit. It's a good but not overly long game.
It is fun hunting down the Monsters from those old (mostly) Black & White films.

Stop. Hammer Time!

Somedays you just need three Hammerheads. Who I am kidding, most days I need three Hammerheads. And now that they have received the new paint scheme and fancy 3D printed stand, they are ready to re-educated those who question The Greater Good! One of the Hammerhead turrets has Commander Longstike to lead an armored advance.

The Ion and Skyray Missile turrets are ready to swap in as necessary. This may happen more often as both weapons have been much improved with the new Codex.

As we all know Armor need infantry for maximum combined arms impact. Fire Warriors now ride in armored comfort, combined with good firepower.
All four Devilfish have the smart missile system instead of gun drones. One is setup as a HQ vehicle (or the Pathfinders ride), using the old tyme upgrade part from the Apocalypse sprue.

Only one more Tau building post to go, and it's a big one...

Old Piranha, New Stands

An oldie, but a goodie: The Tau Piranha returns to my army. New paint scheme, a pair of underwing seeker missiles, and a brand new 3D printer flying stand.

A few years ago I did a post on how Mrs. Blackheart and I re-did the terrible stands for her Eldar to great success. We modified that basic design to better fit my Tau, both Piranhas and Devilfish/Hammerheads.

The old small stem bases were not that bad for the Piranhas, but I wanted them a bit higher off the tabletop.
I am quite pleased with the results. The stands were printed in PLA on a filament printer. Very quick to print, stable and strong on the field.
